4 min read · updated 26 September 2026

A Jan Aushadhi Kendra is a licensed pharmacy that sells the scheme's products at the scheme's printed prices. Anyone who meets the conditions below can apply to open one. This is a summary of the official guidelines; read them in full before you apply, because the conditions change.

Who can apply

  • An individual with a D.Pharm or B.Pharm, or one who employs a pharmacist who has either.
  • An NGO, trust, society or other organisation that employs such a pharmacist.
  • You need at least 120 square feet of space, owned or leased.

The fee

The application fee is Rs 5,000, non-refundable. It is waived for women, Divyang, SC, ST and ex-servicemen applicants, and for Kendras in NITI Aayog aspirational districts, Himalayan areas, island territories and the North-East.

The incentives

  • A 20% margin on the MRP (before taxes) of every product you sell.
  • A monthly incentive of 20% of your purchases from the scheme, capped at Rs 20,000 a month. Half (up to Rs 10,000) is paid on your purchases; the other half (up to Rs 10,000) depends on how much of the range you keep in stock - all of it at 180-200 products, 80% at 150-179, 50% at 100-149, and none below 100.
  • A one-time Rs 2 lakh (Rs 1.5 lakh for furniture, Rs 0.5 lakh for computers and printer) for the fee-waived categories above, once per family, against original bills.

Where to apply

Only at janaushadhi.gov.in. The government has warned about fake websites using the PMBI name to sell "franchises"; a Kendra is not a franchise, and nobody else can sell you one.
